"Splash Girls Collection 2009" was held at Akihabara on August 1st.
"Splash Girls Collection" is an anti-global warming event that Akiba maids and participants splash water on the street. Started in 2004 and has become an Akiba summer tradition.
Participants for "Splash Girls Collection 2009" were staffs from 26 maid/cosplay related shops and the 3 junior high school girl unit "Teens Heaven" with their supporting song. In collaboration with the splashing event of Chiyoda Ward, the event grew bigger with college students from universities in the ward and Marunouchi office workers.
Unlike the previous "Splash Girls Collection!" held in the daytime, it was held in the early evening which is considered to have higher effect. Also using recycled water such as left over water from baths, "saved rain water" (Teens Heaven), "Water used in our building" (Marunouchi office workers) were used. Maids brought in "Dish washing water", "Water that our masters left unfinished" "Our left over water (from baths?)" and "Surprise water(?)".
The water splashing started with the call of "Let it cool!" at the ceremony held in front of Akihabara Station and reduced 0.6 degrees centigrade in 30 minutes. Later splashing split into 3 areas adding UDX and Yodobashi Akiba with maids and general participants. The atmosphere with the maid cafe fans and photographers seemed to boost the temperature, but fortunately the temp cooled down with the water splashing.
