The first volume of the TV animation “Macross Frontier” hit the stores on DVD and Blu-ray.
“Macross Frontier” is the latest series celebrating the 25th anniversary of a milestone SF robot anime aired from April 2008. Set in the year 2059, The series features the 100th New Macross-class Colonial Fleet, en route to finding a new frontier while striving to survive against the biomechanical alien “Vajra”. After a quarter of a century later ,“Mecha-action” “Music” and “Love triangle”, these tree main theme of Macross series still remains.
As one of the main theme, “Music” plays a major role as Yoko Kanno produced the all the songs and music in the story. “Macross Frontier O.S.T.1 Nyan FRO“ is the first soundtrack album featuring the opening theme “Triangular” by Maaya Sakamoto, ending theme “Diamond Crevasse” by Sheryl Nome starring May'n has been sold out in Akihabara stores. Also, one of the heroin , Ranka Lee's debut song “Seikan Hikou” hit the Orikon chart at no.5 showing interest outside the Otaku market.
“Macross Frontier” is the first TV animation to have a DVD and Blu-ray relesed on the same day. It features the TV version of the first episode “Close Encounter” with the 27 minutes Deculture Edition of the Preview version aired December 2007 and the full 32 minute Yak Deculture Edition with the special audio commentaries. 16 page booklet is included in package. And more, the first shipment pack will have a Nyan-Nyan 50th anniversay special sticker.
Macross Frontier may be the closest to be the TV anime of the year, and the first to have both DVD/Blu-ray format, Akihabara shops are keeping a close lookout by having a large space for the products.
Pinning from its original title, a SOFMAP clerk called the Blu-ray the “Super Dimentional Quality”(The 1st MACROSS' s subtitle!!) . He said it will be difficult to go back to DVD after this. Comic Toranoana Honten in Akihabara focused on its Handsome characters and gave it a girl's side view by pairing Alto and Luca.
As a part of the 25th anniversary, some of the Akihabara hobby shops are having a illustration board giveaway campaign per perchase of a Macross product. Any Macross DVD/Blu-ray buyer will have a chance – offcourse with the first volume of “Macross Frontier” !
