The premier issue of a new comic magazine, "Gessan (Monthly Shonen Sunday)" has come out.
"Gessan (Monthly Shonen Sunday)" is a sister magazine of "Weekly Shonen Sunday", a popular manga magazine.Targeting wide range of readers, the sales pitch are,"Absolute Manga Power-ism" "Real Shonen magazines are good for adults and ladies alike!"
The inaugural issue of June 2009 contains works of 20 artists including Mitsuru Adachi (Q and A), Kiyohiko Azuma (Azumanga Daioh Hosyuu-hen), and Kazuhiko Shimamoto (Aoi Honoo). The magazine will come with 2 booklets ,"Ai to Yuuki no Mini Yomikirisyuu" and "Mitsuru Adachi Essay Comic Collection" total in up to 3 books worth of comics for the price of 1.
The return of "Azumanga Daioh", which was a hit in early 2000 was drawing attention of Akiba goers. AKIHABARA GAMERS main store held a big ad that read, "Gessan is the only magazine where you can read "Azumanga Daioh Hosyuu-hen"!"
Double sided clearfile ("Azumanga Daioh" and "Q and A") are given away as a purchase special while some shops packed them in a special made black plastic bag.
