A new codec accelerator card with Spurs Engine media streaming proccessor "FIRECODER Blu" by Toshiba made its debut from Thomson Canopus.

Thomson Canopus "FIRECODER Blu" is a H.264/MPEG2 codec accelerator card that is compatible with PCI Express x1 connection. Just like the previously released Leadtek "WinFast PxVC1100", Spurs Engine media streaming proccessor by Toshiba is installed. It features high speed encoding/decoding processing on a hardware base and up/down conversion capability.

The company WebSite gives some examples of the encoding speed, conversion to HDV from H.264 is half the time of its original data and a quarter of the time when converting to SD quality H.264 from MPEG2. Quality set up like the bit-rate can be set when encoding.

Supported input format are MPEG2(TS/PS),H.264, and Toshiba original codec "Canopus HQ". The output formats are MPEG2 TS(HDV), MPEG2 PS, H.264(M2TS)as well as Blu-ray and DVDs.

Transcoding and writing into Blu-ray/DVD can be done by the applicated software "FIRECODER WRITER" alone, but limited only to its function, it does not comply with authoring or video editing.

"Made in Japan" something we haven't seen recently. Does not have auxiliary power. Singleslot size.
