Akiba shops halts sales of some Seagate HDDs, flaws found

Bookmark and Share

Multiple shops suspended sales of certain Seagate HDDs.

The model that were suspended were the 3.5 inch SATA connect HDD "Baracuda7200.11" and "Barracuda ES.2 SATA" and some more. There are the strong sellers 1TB/1.5TB included among the models, and the parts shops put up "Sold Out" "Back-order" signs and halting sales( No "callback" or "abeyance" signs were seen).

No further information were given from the shops but according to Clevery 1st store, "We were told that there are some bug on the lot of some models so we halted our sales. We are currently contacting our buyers and distributors but we are not sure when we will resume sales." *(TWO TOP Akihabara main store said that they would exchange with the same model with a different firmware if consumers bought the corresponding product or exchange to a different makers' product with balance amount.) These are measures taken by each shops and the distributor's response is "yet to be confirmed" (multiple shops).

TWO TOP Akihabara main store
told us that they would release an announcement as soon as they receive the official response from the manufacture.

Seagate, the U.S. based company has announced that some lots on "Barracuda 7200.11" "DaimondMax 22" "Barracuda ES.2 SATA" and "SV35" had some flaws on its firmware like not able to have recognize from BIOS after the start up and unable to access data (data itself will not be erased). The company is providing tools for the lot recognition and asking corresponding users to contact Seagate.

The other models without the flaws were sold as before.
