GIGABYTE hosts "GOOC 2009" Overclocking competition!

GIGABYTE hosts "GOOC 2009" Overclocking competition!"Gigabyte Overclocking Championship 2009(GOOC 2009)" hosted by GIGABYTE was held at CAFFE SOLARE on the 20th at Akihabara.


"GOOC 2009" is an event competing the speed and performance overclocking GIGABYTE's X58 motherboards and videocards. This world wide competition was held as a ticket to the Asian round and to crown the Japan champion.

Cotty, DAKARA and Donbei made it to the finals but Donbei could not make it, making the competition a head to head between DAKARA and Cotty. The finals were in two categories: Free Category that the contestants bring their own equipments and parts and Regulated Category using parts provided by GIGABYTE. The competition is decided by the clock speed after 2 hours for Free Category and 1 hour for Regulated Category to setup/adjust. The clock speed is judged by the completion of Super pi 1M digit calculation.

People were able to see the contestants setting up in action while the moves were commented by the MC."Core i7 920"(2.66GHz)was the target CPU, which Cotty used frozen carbon dioxide with organic solvent, while DAKARA used liquid nitrogen. The Free Category went to Cotty with 4.8279GHz and Regulated Category to DAKARA with 4.840GHz. The judges crowned DAKARA was the overall champion. DAKARA will go to Thailand to participate in the final round of the Asian Block to win a ticket to the World Competition.

DAKARA


The famous overclocker CAL930 was on hand for demonstration. Overclocking twice using Core 2 Duo E8600 and Core i7 Extreme 965, also used liquid nitrogen to freeze cupped noodles. CAL930 is the Japanese champion from last year and participated in the "Extreme Overclocking Party 2009 1st" held at OVERCLOCK WORKS.

Exhibition space showed VGAs and motherboards by GIGABYTE and laptops. Many eyes were on "GV-N96TSL-1GI" with GeForce 9600 GT that will go on sale this April as well as small laptop computers  "ThinNote" and "TouchNote".
